Funding and Support

Funding for this toolkit was provided by the University of California National Center for Free Speech and Civic Engagement Fellows Program. Initiated by University of California President Janet Napolitano, the Center explores how the fundamental democratic and academic principles of free speech and civic engagement should enrich the discovery and transmission of knowledge in America’s colleges and universities.

Through research, advocacy, debate and discussion, the Center is dedicated to ensuring that the next generation of leaders is prepared to understand, defend and advance these values. Under the leadership of Executive Director, Michelle Deutchman, the Center annually selects up to 10 fellows from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds. Fellows advance the national conversation related to expression and civic engagement on college campuses including how to promote campus dialogue and further viewpoint diversity and inclusivity.
